Mark G. Hanna draws on his research interests and expertise to engage and inspire students in the intellectual journey of revisiting and thinking seriously about the past. He is a lively and engaging instructor whose history courses reflect the rigor and verve he brings to the classroom. Students regularly comment about Professor Hanna’s energy and imagination and his innovative and effective use of audiovisual materials. He also exposes students to hands-on research at libraries and museums and encourages work with primary sources. As one student noted, “Professor Hanna is the only professor I have had thus far that encouraged the use of the Special Collections Library. He offered extra credit if the students did one of their readings at the library and wrote a short paper about the experience of handling and reading a historical document. Prior to my experience in this class, I did not even know that undergraduates had access to these types of resources.”
