Laura J. Stevens (Mathematics)

Laura J. Stevens has positively impacted the lives and learning of thousands of students at UC San Diego. Her colleagues praise her, and one described her as “the paradigm of a distinguished teacher.” Dr. Stevens’s CAPE scores over the past eight years show an average student approval rating of 99.56 percent, and students consistently comment that she is “an amazing teacher.” Her students also praise her enthusiastic and engaging lectures and her ability to simplify and explain complex concepts. One student wrote, “Dr. Stevens is a fantastic teacher. Her passion and love for teaching and math is inspiring, and when she gets excited about what she’s teaching, it makes me want to understand it because I feel like if I don’t, I’m missing out on something amazing.” Dr. Stevens is developing future mathematics teachers as well through undergraduate courses that she teaches as part of UC San Diego’s minor in mathematics education.
