Hoi Ling Lui (History)

Hoi Ling Lui is a skilled and caring teacher. She encourages her students to ask questions and become critical thinkers by promoting discussion and creating a safe atmosphere in her classroom. Ms. Lui consistently receives glowing evaluations from her history and Chinese-language students, who commend her for an engaging and enthusiastic teaching style, ability to motivate them, and sincere interest in their progress. She is described as approachable, accessible, attentive, and professional. Ms. Lui has an especially good rapport among the international Chinese-speaking students in her classes, helping them to navigate between English and Chinese. As one student said, “Not only is she terrific at teaching, but she really knows how to make her students feel comfortable in a class setting in which we are excited to learn.” Ms. Lui contributes significantly to the diversity and inclusion goals of the teaching mission at UC San Diego.
