Application Forms

The Marine Sciences Research Grant Committee is pleased to solicit applications for travel to a scholarly meeting for conferences scheduled after July 1, 2015.

The next deadline for submission of applications is October 15, 2015.

Application Process

PDF and Word applications are available on this page. Combine your travel application and supporting documents into a single PDF file and email it to mnull@ucsd.edu.

If the paper acceptance is still pending at the time of submission, travel support may be approved, but funds will not be released until receipt of these documents.

Please contact Michelle Null (mnull@ucsd.edu, extension x42130) if you have any questions.

Eligibility Information

Awards for airfare expenses for travel to conferences or symposia of professional societies are made to Academic Senate Members, Research Scientists or Project Scientists who are presenting papers on their research or who are organizing and presiding over one or more sessions in the meeting. In the case of Project Scientists, the application should include a paragraph justifying the exception to policy.

Guidelines

If partial support is available to you from other sources, this information must be provided at the time you submit the application (question #3). A letter of invitation must accompany each application.

Only the presenting author may apply for a travel award.

Only one trip per fiscal year (July 1-June 30) for any Senate member will be awarded. However, there is no limit to the number of travel awards faculty may receive over a period of years.

Cost of side trips unrelated to the conference funded will be deducted.

Applicant may use any means to book travel.

For workshops and other ad-hoc meetings of prominent members of the academic community that are not sponsored by a continuing Professional Society, the applicant should provide a short explanation of the scholarly goals of the meeting.

Invitations to participate in conferences organized by universities, departments, or institutes cannot be supported.

Award Amounts

  • Domestic: Awards are made for the lowest published air coach fare not to exceed $1000. Travelers are expected to seek the least expensive flights, and only actual airfare based on ticket receipts will be covered. Travel to Mexico and Canada are awarded under domestic travel policies.
  • Foreign: Foreign travel will be supported for the lowest published or actual fare, whichever is lower (quotation from travel agency, airline, or internet is required). Awards will not exceed $1,500, and will not be honored to subsidize fare upgrades. These funds are not restricted to the use of U.S. carriers.
