Robert Continetti (Chemistry & Biochemistry)

Professor Robert Continetti is a Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Professor Continetti’s research interests focus on the role transient species play in governing the chemical behavior of complex systems. The Continetti Lab seeks to characterize these species by using a variety of techniques, including mass spectrometry, photoelectron and photofragment spectroscopies and the measurement of scattering cross-sections. The systems under study range from triatomic ions to large nanoparticles. These experiments provide critical tests of modern electronic structure and dynamics calculations as applied to understanding atmospheric, combustion and astrochemistry as well as the development of new analytical instrumentation.   

Professor Continetti has served the campus in a variety of capacities. He was Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry from 2006-2012, and served as Chair of the Chancellor’s Diversity Council from 2009-2011. As part of the Academic Senate, Professor Continetti served as Vice Chair of Planning & Budget (2013-14), Chair of Graduate Council (2005-06), and Chair of the Graduate Fellowship Subcommittee (2003-04, 2004-05).
